Wine Corks and Daffodils....

I had a very eventful weekend.
I went to visit my friend Rho ( you know , from Rho's Rants )
She wanted a little help with some decorating dilemmas ,
so she invited me to come shop, craft, drink wine,
drink more wine.....
Well...
we needed the empty wine bottles for one of the "craft projects" she wanted help with.
So , we did what we had to do,
drink wine !
Rho lives in Ankeny.
( for those of you not from Iowa , it's attached to DesMoines )
Now remember , I live in the back of beyond, so this was a trip to the big city !
Big city means , great shopping !

Rho needed accessories for her new house.
Art , pillows, drapes and stuff .... fun stuff !
As Rho's friend Julie said , we needed the jewelry to complete the outfit !
( I love her analogy ! )
We were also on the lookout for a small table for a space by her front door.
Our inspiration for the living room came from a fabulous painting ( on canvas) she received from a
non -profit group she works with called Love takes Root ( they are working right now on building an orphanage in Haiti ).
The colors are so rich and vibrant !
This became the inspiration for the whole living room.
The table we were looking for  was to go under this painting.

Our first stop on our shopping expedition was a consignment home decor store called the Attic.
( Just my kind of place !)
She ( and her friend Julie , who has an eye for detail like no other ) found a large painting to go above her couch in exactly the same colors as the other painting !
We were off to a great start!
Second stop - Homemakers , the largest furniture store I have EVER seen !
We found the PERFECT table ( actually a desk in disguise ).
Funny thing is she had looked at the same table when she had been there before but talked her self out of it .
Bad news.... it was on back order !
She will have to wait till April to get it :(
Which was a real bummer , cause this was one room she really wanted to complete this weekend.

More shopping , Gordmans, Kirklands, Target and my personal favorite Trader Joe's!
( OK , Trader Joe's was mostly just for me , but I don't get to the city often ! )
Wait till you see what I got !

Armed with art and pillows , new drapes and stuff , we made our way back to Rho's house to put it all together..
Julie did most of the accessorizing , we just kind watched
Although she showed me a really great trick for hanging pictures with two hooks.
Thank you Julie , you have saved my walls from unnecessary holes!
I have to say , Rho was very happy with the end result !
After supper , Julie left and Rho and I got down to my contribution to her dining room decor.
Her dining room is done in a wine theme ( get why she wanted me to help now , huh?)
Our first project was this

She wants lighted wine bottles along the top of her cabinets.
She wanted to use icicle lights , which I have never used before.
The worked really great , especially when you want them this close together.
The only problem is the cords along the top.
We started this project later in the evening ( and after some wine ) so we couldn't really go out for supplies.
I think some ivy garland and maybe even some grape clusters will hide the cords well.
My next project was  this
Funny thing about this project is  , we had both found and pinned it on Pinterst.
We were both happy with how this turned out.
As a matter of fact , I loved it so much , I made one for my self when I got home.

I know I have a hurricane vase somewhere, but I can never find things when I need them .
( Project organization must commence soon ! )
Sooo....
I used my trifle bowl.

I love this bowl , but I don't make trifles often,
I think this is a much better use for it.
Then I couldn't find the right size candle to go inside.
( and I have a LOT of candles )
Soooo...again...improvise....
A pint size Mason jar .
Next...add corks.
I have a few...
That's right...
A garbage bag of wine corks!
Now , before anyone thinks they need to organize an intervention,
I did NOT drink all the wine it would take to acquire a garbage bag of wine corks!
I have a good friend , who's parents have friends that own an Italian restaurant, they saved the corks for her and she was kind enough to share with me !
Yah !
Some are cooler than others.
I prefer the "real" corks over the synthetic ones.
Fill the space in between the bowls/vases ( whatever you want to use) with the corks.
 I don't burn candles anymore.
Flames make me nervous.
I actually used one of these battery operated ones .
Both Emily and the Hubs thought I had a candle burning!

I added it to a vase of daffodils ( one of my Trader Joe's purchases )
and a little glass bird ( also with a battery operated tea light )

I got the daffodils for $1.69 for a bunch of 10 !
I got three bunches.
Oh, how I wish I lived closer to Trader Joe's !

I also got a 6 inch Daffodil plant for $4.99 and a 4 inch plant for $2.49.
I could hardly control myself !

I always pick plants or cut flowers that are in bud stage and not open.
They last so much longer that way !

Baby daffodils, also called Tete'a'Tete'.
Love!
Mother Nature may have dusted us with a little snow today,
but inside my house,
it's looking like spring!

  5. Dawn:
Update! We went to a local chain restaurant that serves Italian food Sunday night - Olive Garden. Asked the server if they have any empty wine bottles. YEP! Took home three.

Update Part 2! The heat is too much for the icicle lights and they have all burned out. SHUCKS! So I have to find some LED ones that don't get so hot. Gonna look on a website that sells lights this weekend and see what I can find.

Update Part 3! I miss you!

    THANKS for the help!!!!!

  12. Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your
articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all.

But think of if you added some great pictures or video clips to give your posts more,
"pop"! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this site
could certainly be one of the very best in its niche. Very good
    blog!

  19. One of the most important wine accessories to have is stemware. Stemware is a type of drink ware that stands up on a stem above a base. Most of the time it's made from glass, but it can also be made from metals and ceramics. There is a wide variety of stemware such as wine glasses, champagne flutes, chalices and goblets, cocktail glasses, Brandy snifters, and cordial glasses. Each stemware plays an individual part in wine or alcoholic beverages.
