One of my favorite quotes from a blogger was ,
"white spray paint is the botox of design "
And I completely agree.
However , I would change that to just spray paint .
Any spray paint , any color.

Nothing can take something out of date and dingy and turn it into something beautiful and useful again like a can of spray paint !

For instance,
this old iron plant stand.
Popular in the late 70's early 80's.
Who's Mom or grandma doesn't have one of these hanging around.

With a face lift of Rustoleum 2X in Aqua

Much more fun huh ?

If you have been read my blog before ,
you know I will spray paint anything .
Some things multiple times.

Like Addie's steps,
the first time I painted them in Key Lime,

they were just a little too lime...
So, they became Fire Orange

My new favorite Rustoleum color !

Or this Goodwill lamp ,

I don't remember what color it was originally ,
but I sprayed it red for my bedroom'
then decided it needed a new home in the living room.
I was trying to inject a little color in my too neutral room.
This color is called Eden and it's my new favorite shade of green.
I covered the lampshade with burlap and
WAALAA !
A brand new lamp !

I used it on this baker's rack also .
I picked it up for FREE on the curbside :)

Isn't it great?
AND it was FREE !

It was missing the top ,
so Hub cut a piece of left over counter top to fit .
Perfect !

And my last makeover to share ,

These maple end tables with a faux marble top.
( I think Formica of some sort )

Don't they look much happier Fire Orange?
I even used the same hardware,
just touched it up with a Flat Black.

Side note :
These tables and some of my other Funky Furniture pieces are for sale and can be found at

I must say , I have found a few things that couldn't even be saved with spray paint,
but not too many  :)

Little Red School Desk

This isn't going to be my typical Wednesday blog post.
No Addie pictures today.
We were together today,
but it was SOOO HOT that we played in the water.
So , why no pictures ?
Well, I don't have a suit for her , so she played in her undies
( at first anyway , then they came off too )
I didn't think nakey Addie pictures were appropriate.
You will just have to wait till next Wednesday to see more pictures of my beautifu grand daughter :)

I do , however , have a project to share with you.
Don't get too excited though.
I have terrible pictures.
Maybe that I no longer have my store ,
I can take a class or something ....

Anyway ....
I bought this little desk at a garage sale.

At first , I wanted to keep the seat origanal,
but there was too much writing and ink on it and I couldn't.

So I primed the whole thing.
I don't usually prime my projects ,
but this one had a lot of different surfaces going on,
metal, wood and formica.

I painted to seat and base with
Rustoleum 2X the Coverage in Apple Red,

Warning : here come the TERRIBLE photos

and I painted the desk top with chalkboard paint !

Well....
I warned you the pictures were bad !
But the desk turned out FANTASTIC!

I promise,
I am going to work on my photography skills ....

P.S.
This Little Red Desk is now waiting at Market 124 for it's new owner to find it :)

A Couple Painted Projects.... Aqua

Yah warmer weather !
I can paint again !
Although my arm is not happy about it !
It's aching like crazy tonight....

Anyway , I've finished quite a few of the projects I've had stock piled all winter.
I'm a spray painter.
Hand me a brush and I will make a mess of anything.
Seriously...

I pick up wooden chairs whenever I find them cheap.
The project I am showing you today is the chair in the middle.
Although the little bench on the right turned out super cute too .
I'll have to see if I can find those pictures to show you..

Anyway...
I painted ( with a brush ,yikes ) the edges in an aqua color,
then covered the whole chair with RustOleum Ultra Cover 2X in Ivory Silk
This is my favorite spray paint.
It covers so well !

Then I sanded the edges to let the aqua come through.

Then it was time to cover the seat.
I had found a couple pillow shams at the thrift store that had aqua and lime green.
I love that combo .

I couldn't just let the little chair be lonely.
She needed a companion.
Enter , ugly little table needing love...
I had already taken the hardware of the little drawer before I took this picture.
I don't usually don't sand much unless it has a super shiny finish or a rough spot that needs to be smoothed.

This time I used RustOleum Ultra Cover in Aqua.

SWEET!
I gave it the love it needed !

I had another pillow sham so I used it cover a little foot stool.
Please excuse the hanging tags,
This is my projects on display at my store .

The only thing I would change is the legs on the little foot stool.
I should have painted them Ivory Silk.
But I have already sold this set :)
It didn't live in the store long.
It found a new home:)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday with Addie ...and a couple little projects

Have I mentioned how GREAT our weather has been lately?
I know I have cause it has been HEAVENLY!
50's in January in Iowa !
FAB*U*LOUS !

So anyway....
I took advantage of the weather this past weekend and finished a couple spray painting projects that I started QUITE* A* WHILE ago!

The first one was this step stool.
I'm really short.
And I was tired of dragging a chair to the kitchen to reach ANYTHING !
But it was gray and dirty and overall yucky.

Finished ( well, mostly) project.

You know I love lime :)

I also finished a chair for the store.

Painted aqua , then painted ivory.
Distressed a little ( maybe not enough)
I covered the seat with a pillow sham I found at GW.

Isn't she cute?

Speaking of cute .....
No, I don't have her locked up.
She's JUMPING !
Silly Grandma got her a mini-trampoline for Christmas.
Silly cause it's still at MY house and not hers.
But she LOVES it !
So who cares that it takes up half of my dining room?
Not me. Not Papa either .
She likes to zip herself in :)

Her sheep had to jump too.
( It's really a pink and white poodle, but she calls it " Addie's sheep")

Now we are having our first Winter Storm of the season.
( it was 41 degrees earlier today)
GREAT....
Oh well, I knew it was impossible to have that fantastic weather continue till spring.
But you can't blame a girl for hoping !

Painted Pumpkins ( & Thirsty Thursday )

Happy Almost Friday ! Yah ! What a long week !
I have been busy trying to get fall / Halloween decorations out. Usually I am all over this by the middle of September , I'm not sure why I'm so late this year.... hmmm....something to contemplate at a later date.
Anyway, I've been kinda into painting pumpkins this year. I've never really done that before , but thanks to my BFF, Shari , I have a plethora of pumpkins ( mini ones actually) to play with.
You might remember these from my " cabinet redo" post from earlier this week.

This project started the pumpkin painting craze ! I wanted hedge apples but couldn't find any . So I just painted some pumpkins " hedge apple" color ( actually called Key Lime ). Then I painted some white to go in the little spider pumpkin holders Emily gave me last year.

Now I just can't stop ! YIKES

I had this really bright idea that I wanted black and white pumpkins with designs on them and after coming up with several ideas that seemed complicated and too time consuming , I think I finally hit on the right one.....

Rubber bands !

First, I spray painted them white. Then I wrapped the rubber bands around them in different patterns. Then I spray painted them black , removed the rubber bands and WAALAA!

Now, they are far from perfect. Some of the paint peeled off when I removed the rubber bands, but it was my first attempt , so I was pleased enough with the outcome.

These I just painted black right away, then I dipped the end of a pencil eraser in white paint and dotted it around the pumpkin. Don't you just love the leaf plates ? $1.50 for both of them at Goodwill!

Crows from the Dollar Tree. Sorry about the photography , you know it's not one of my talents . But I have been reading about how to improve it !

Here is where my inspiration came from :
Halloween - love the hedge apples !

I just did a little different combo .

As for Thirsty Thursday ... I'm too tired to mix a cocktail, think I'll just pour a glass of wine ....

P.S. this post has been linked to http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/. Check them out ! Lots of awesomeness!
