A few years ago , when we moved back to the Dairy Farm ( for the 3rd time ) . I decided to put a gallery wall on the large living room wall.
There is not a thing in the world I love more than my family and I have some great pictures of them.
And not to brag or anything , but I have pretty kids !
I have pictures taken by my very oldest , bestest friend of the kids when they were small. These pictures have always been and continue to be my very favorite pictures of them.
Then there are their graduation pictures , and family pictures, wedding pictures and Addie pictures taken by the best photographer ever and good friend Nichole Preibe . I have alot more Addie pictures now and they all tease me that she will have to have her own wall soon.
I also like words and monograms .
I think a gallery wall can be a little boring if it is just pictures.
But this post is about a new gallery type wall I made in my bedroom out of all thrift store junk I love.
Its got old etched mirrors , plates, birds , empty frames and subway art.
I found the chair picture in the center at a thrift store for $3. It had a blue frame ( not my favorite color ). First I painted it red.
That was too bright.
So I pained it white and distressed it so the red would come through.
Perfect! ( well , close enough for me )
The frames were not much more than $1 each and I got a bag of these birds -
for a quarter ! Remember these from the 80"s . Probably Home Interiors.
Anyway , I painted 3 of them Colonial Red ( Rustoleum 2x), and hung them in the empty frames.
The plates were found on Ebay and at yard sales.
I've had the red and white ones for years.
They are from the Royal Ironstone Company in the Memory Lane pattern.
The border is oak leaves and acorns and they all have farm scenes.
The large one has a little boy leading a cow and since we lived on a dairy farm , they just kinda called to me.
I am always on the lookout for more in this pattern.
I have recently fallen in love with Subway art !
It is all over blogland and lucky for me ( and the world) there are people more talented than me posting it to share !
I have a plan to make a different , more personalized one for this wall but for now I have one from someone else .
( Again , I can't remember where, so I sincerely apologize for not giving credit where it is due ! )
The little frame above it is just one I had laying around and I had a little blank spot , so I cut some pretty scrapbook paper and put it in !
No I don't scrapbook but I love the pretty papers that are available.
Just like I don't sew , but I love fabric !
Weird, I know ....
So there you have my gallery walls , one old and one new.
Sometime I'll do a post on my NEW family wall.
In the mean time here are some gallery wall inspirations from Pinterest.
Enjoy!
Love the mixture of frames , letters and symbols.
Awesome Plates !
Love the use of COLOR here and the empty frames !
This one is just CLASSIC. Notice the use of vent covers ! Awesome !
There is just no place like Pinterest for inspiration !

ReplyDeleteAwesome gallery wall! I have been thinking of doing this in my stairwell. I love that one that used the vent covers, I would never have thought of that but there are some really pretty ones!
ReplyDeleteLove both those gallery walls. I finally sucked it up and put up my first gallery wall in the living room. I was always a little scared of messing up but it turned out well.
